North Pacific Decadal Variability: Insights from a Biennial ENSO Environment

Abstract: This study examines the mechanisms of the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) in the NASA GEOS-5 general circulation model (GCM). Similar to several other state-of-the-art GCMs, the El NiƱo-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) simulated by the GEOS-5 has a strong biennial periodicity.
