Born in Manhattan and raised in Yonkers, New York, Diana Gentry broke with tradition and declined to follow three generations of lawyers in her family. Instead, she became a research scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, where she leads the Bioengineering and Instrumentation Group in the Biosphere Science Branch.
