SMOS tracking changes in ocean salinity

Over the last decade, ESA’s SMOS satellite has been used to track changes in the salinity of ocean surface waters. This allow scientists to chart features such as the freshwater outflow from the Amazon River and how El Niñochanges the freshwater pool in the Pacific Ocean.
