Sgt. Rodney Hamilton recalls the afternoon of March 11, 2011, with perfect clarity. It was his birthday, but that&#8217;s not the only reason it&#8217;s clear to him. That afternoon he was driving home from work at Misawa Air Base, Japan, when he witnessed the awesome power of nature. <\/p>\n<p>A magnitude 9.03 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan with full force; the earthquake was the most powerful in Japan&#8217;s recorded history.
