This 100 m-resolution image centres on uKhahlamba\u2013Drakensberg Park, located at Lesotho\u2019s northeastern border with the South African province of Kwazulu-Natal, covering roughly 240 000 hectares. Lesotho\u2019s Malibamats\u2019o River is visible to the upper left.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nRich in its diversity of habitats, the park is home to various populations of endemic birds, mammals and reptiles. It is also home to the largest collection of rock paintings in Africa south of the Sahara. The paintings reflect the way of life of the San people, which lived in the area for more than four millennia. In 2000, UNESCO named the park as a World Heritage Site.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nLaunched on 7 May 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Space_Engineering_Technology\/Proba_Missions\/Overview2\">Proba-V<\/a> is a miniaturised ESA satellite tasked with a full-scale mission: to map land cover and vegetation growth across the entire planet every two days.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIts main camera\u2019s continent-spanning 2250 km swath width collects light in the blue, red, near-infrared and mid-infrared wavebands at 300 m resolution and down to 100 m resolution in its central field of view.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nVITO, the Flemish institute for technological research, processes and then distributes Proba-V data to users.
