But during pre-flight testing one of Gaia\u2019s memory modules \u2013 part of the spacecraft\u2019s onboard \u2018hard disk\u2019 \u2013 failed. ESA\u2019s Materials and Electrical Components Laboratory was called in to assess the failure, to see if it was a one-off or else caused by a general manufacturing issue.
