\nJapanese astronaut Aki Hoshide\u2019s video log of the second day of the extended exploration phase of ESA\u2019s underground training course CAVES.\n<\/p>\n

\nSix astronauts from China, Japan, USA, Spain and Russia will spend six nights in caves of Sardinia, Italy, to explore the depths and train for life in outer space.\n<\/p>\n

\nAki is the team\u2019s commander for the first half of the underground mission, handing over command to NASA\u2019s Ricky Arnold halfway. Aki recounts the exploration of the day and finding a suitable place to setup advanced camp.\n<\/p>\n

\nCAVES \u2013 Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behaviour and performance Skills \u2013 focuses on multicultural approaches to leadership, following orders, teamwork and decision-making. At the end of the course the astronauts will have a better understanding of how they function in a multicultural team and what they are skilled at, as well as areas for self-improvement.\n<\/p>\n
