{"id":33,"date":"2002-12-05T17:33:51","date_gmt":"2002-12-05T22:33:51","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2002-12-05T17:33:51","modified_gmt":"2002-12-05T22:33:51","slug":"reese-moves-to-education-initiatives-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=33","title":{"rendered":"REESE MOVES TO EDUCATION INITIATIVES OFFICE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>     NASA Deputy Administrator Fred Gregory announced <br \/>\nGeorge Reese, Assistant Administrator for Equal <br \/>\nOpportunity Programs, has accepted a detail assignment <br \/>\nwith the Department of Education\u00b9s White House <br \/>\nInitiatives Office for Historically Black Colleges and <br \/>\nUniversities (HBCU\u00b9s).<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nReese will be working with the initiative\u00b9s director, <br \/>\nAmbassador Leonard Spearman, and the President&#8217;s Board <br \/>\nof Advisors on HBCU\u00b9s on how best to ensure the <br \/>\ninstitutions&#8217; long-term viability and enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re glad to know that George&#8217;s energy and expertise <br \/>\nwill continue to be available to the government,&#8221; said <br \/>\nDeputy Administrator Gregory. &#8220;NASA has a long history <br \/>\nof encouraging and supporting education, and George&#8217;s <br \/>\nbackground will enhance the Administration&#8217;s commitment <br \/>\nto the future of Historically Black Colleges and <br \/>\nUniversities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reese has been head of NASA\u00b9s Office of Equal <br \/>\nopportunity Programs since 1997.  Before that he was <br \/>\nDeputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel for <br \/>\nGeneral Law, and he served as a Senior Attorney and <br \/>\nAttorney-Advisor.  He joined NASA in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>During his 25 years at NASA, Reese worked on numerous <br \/>\ncases related to equal opportunity and employment <br \/>\nissues. He was the NASA representative and U.S. delegate <br \/>\nto the Legal Subcommittee of the U.N. Committee on the <br \/>\nPeaceful Uses of Outer Space. He also served for many <br \/>\nyears as the Chairman of the NASA Contract Adjustment <br \/>\nBoard.<\/p>\n<p>Reese was born in Detroit and raised in Pennsylvania.  <br \/>\nHe received his bachelor\u00b9s degree from Lincoln <br \/>\nUniversity, Pa. and his J.D. from the George Washington <br \/>\nUniversity National Law Center, Washington. He also <br \/>\nattended the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of <br \/>\nPublic and International Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>During the Vietnam War, he served as an officer in the <br \/>\nUnited States Army.
