We do \u2013 ESA mission controllers sported them in 1972!\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThis image was taken in 1972 in the main control room at ESA\u2019s European Space Operations Centre, in Darmstadt, Germany, during a VIP visit by the UK\u2019s Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe centre has served as Europe\u2019s gateway to space for half a century.
