{"id":377585,"date":"2017-09-21T04:06:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T08:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?guid=2357c89e54127763c815712ee5932697"},"modified":"2017-09-21T04:06:00","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T08:06:00","slug":"rover-craters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=377585","title":{"rendered":"Rover craters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/var\/esa\/storage\/images\/esa_multimedia\/images\/2017\/09\/rover_craters\/17162475-1-eng-GB\/Rover_craters_small.jpg\" width=\"170\" height=\"95\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"8\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\nIn the week of 18 September 2017, the low-resolution webcam on ESA\u2019s Mars Express captured some impressive images from between 3000 km to 5000 km altitude.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe image series is being used to calibrate the camera now that it has been promoted to a \u2018full\u2019 science instrument (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa.int\/Our_Activities\/Operations\/Mars_Webcam_goes_pro\" title=\"VMC goes pro\" >Mars webcam goes pro<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThis week, the images provided reasonably good definition for many craters on the surface, including several that are occupied by NASA rovers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the composite image above, moving from lower left to upper right, three craters are circled.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe first shows Gale crater, which is occupied by NASA\u2019s Curiosity rover. The second circle, to the right in the middle, shows Gusev Crater, home of the retired Spirit rover.
