{"id":638287,"date":"2019-11-21T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=638287"},"modified":"2019-11-21T10:30:00","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T14:30:00","slug":"the-burn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=638287","title":{"rendered":"The Burn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/The_Burn_card_full.png\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n\tVideo:<br \/>\n\t\t\t00:10:05<\/p>\n<p>ESA\u2019s flight controllers use the best software and systems to fly our missions &#8212; but do they have the cool savvy needed to handle a wonky engine and a time-critical manoeuvre?<\/p>\n<p>Set in the near future, \u2018The Burn\u2019 is a new short film that tells the story of what happens when an ESA mission control team encounters an unexpected anomaly in what should be a routine manoeuvre.<\/p>\n<p>The Operations Manager, spacecraft engineers, flight dynamics experts and software and systems specialists all \u2018work the problem\u2019, fighting against time, the inexorable pull of gravity and a capricious Solar System to avoid loss of mission.<\/p>\n<p>Fundamentally, without mission operations infrastructure \u2013 ground stations across the globe, flight dynamics systems, high-tech control rooms and cutting edge control systems \u2013 we could not fly the complex missions we have successfully flown now for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, you have to fail to succeed.
