{"id":643078,"date":"2020-01-14T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=643078"},"modified":"2020-01-14T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-01-14T16:00:00","slug":"cheops-seen-by-saint-ex-telescope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=643078","title":{"rendered":"Cheops seen by SAINT-EX telescope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Cheops_seen_by_SAINT-EX_Telescope_card_full.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ESA\u2019s Characterising Exoplanet Satellite, Cheops, is shown here as a long streak against a backdrop of stars as it orbits the Earth after its successful launch on 18 December 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-minute long exposure was taken at 13:18 UTC on 11 January 2020 with the 1-m <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintex.unibe.ch\/saint_ex_observatory\/description\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">SAINT-EX robotic telescope<\/a>, located at the National Astronomical Observatory of Mexico at San Pedro Martir, Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The coordinates of the centre of this 2048 x 2048 pixel image are: right ascension 11h 56m 58.00s and declination +27\u00ba 30\u2019 45.0\u2019\u2019 (J2000). The visible trail seen running from bottom to top in the image is due to sunlight reflected by the\u00a0Cheops spacecraft, which is in a sun-synchronous orbit with an altitude of 700 km and a local time of the ascending node of 6:00am.<\/p>\n<p>The image spans only 12 arcminutes across, so\u00a0Cheops spent a very short time in the field of view \u2013 around 400 ms. The estimated r\u2019-band magnitude of CHEOPS in this image is 7.8\u00a0\u00b1 0.3 (calculation by M.
