My colleagues and I were hugely excited to announce it but, alas, this stingray\u2014a distant cousin of sharks\u2014can&#8217;t be claimed to be a particularly spectacular or awe-inspiring animal. It&#8217;s small\u2014about the size of an outstretched hand\u2014and, as far as we know, plain, without distinctive markings.
