{"id":691543,"date":"2021-05-28T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=691543"},"modified":"2021-05-28T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T12:00:00","slug":"innovative-video-technology-to-call-for-new-astronaut-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=691543","title":{"rendered":"Innovative video technology to call for new astronaut candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Innovative_video_technology_to_call_for_new_astronaut_candidates_card_full.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the midst of COVID restrictions rendering travel close to impossible, ESA had to produce an ambitious video to call for applications to the 2021 astronaut selection.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe challenge of this project was to show locations as varied as a spaceship, a city, a canyon, a forest, ESA&#8217;s satellite testing or control centres, Europe&#8217;s space port in Kourou, or even the Moon.\u00a0<br \/>To create the illusion of immersing the protagonists into these various environments, ESA teamed up with Duck Factory to use a &#8220;Virtual Set&#8221;: a new technology, that had not \u00a0yet been used to the full extend of its potential.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8220;Virtual Set&#8221; is a regular stage on which previously created 3D images are projected.
