Gaia arrived there in 2014, and Webb in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Gaia orbits L2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/ESA_Multimedia\/Images\/2014\/01\/Gaia_s_Lissajous_orbit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">in a Lissajous orbit<\/a>. The James Webb Space Telescopes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/ESA_Multimedia\/Images\/2021\/06\/Webb_s_journey_to_L2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">orbits L2 in a halo orbit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On 18 February 2022, the two spacecraft were 1 million km apart, with an edge-on view of Gaia towards Webb\u2019s huge sunshield.
