One of the biggest faults I see in marketing is how companies focus in on everything else \u2013 BUT what\u2019s important.\u00a0 They talk about the awards they\u2019ve won, how long they\u2019ve been in business, how great their logo is, and how amazing their service is.<\/span><\/p>\n

And they completely forget what the customer is really concerned with.<\/p>\n

The following is from the great Rosser Reeves.\u00a0 Print it off and post it above your desk. Every time you start working on your marketing \u2013 remember these words.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see you\u2019ve spent quite a big wad of dough to tell me the things you thought I should know:<\/p>\n

How your plant is so big, so fine and so strong, \u00a0and how your founder had whiskers ever so long.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he started this business in old \u201892. How tremendously interesting that must seem to you.<\/p>\n

He built up the thing with the blood of his life \u00a0(I\u2019ll run home like mad, tell that to my wife!)<\/p>\n

\u201cYour machinery is modern and oh so complete. Your reps, they are flawless; your workers so neat.<\/p>\n

And your motto is \u2018Quality\u2019 with a capital \u2018Q\u2019 No wonder I\u2019m tiring of your shtick and you.<\/p>\n

\u201cTell me quick and please tell me true \u00a0(or else, my dear love, to hell with you).<\/p>\n

Tell me less how this product once came to be, And more about what this damn thing DOES for me!<\/p>\n

\u201cWill it save me more money or time or work, \u00a0or hike up my pay with a most welcome jerk?<\/p>\n

What drudgery, worry, or loss will it cut?<\/p>\n

Can it yank me personally out of a rut?<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps it can make my appearance so swell that my telephone ringing will wear out the bell;<\/p>\n

And thus it might win me a lot of new friends<\/p>\n

(One never knows where such a thing ends!)<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder how much it could do for my health?<\/p>\n

Could it show me a way to acquire some wealth?<\/p>\n

Better things for myself, for the kids and the wife?<\/p>\n

Or how to quit work somewhat early in life?<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, tell me quick and please tell me true \u00a0(or else, my dear love, to hell with you).<\/p>\n

Tell me less how this product once came to be, And more about what this damn thing DOES for me!\u201d<\/p>\n
