The measurement is based on the planet\u2019s thermal emission: heat energy given off in the form of infrared light detected by Webb\u2019s Mid-Infrared Instrument (<a href=\"\/Science_Exploration\/Space_Science\/MIRI_factsheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">MIRI<\/a>).
