Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act \u201cto provide for research into problems of flight within and outside the Earth\u2019s atmosphere.\u201d At the White House less than a month later, Eisenhower commissioned Dr. T. Keith Glennan, right, as the first administrator for NASA and Dr. Hugh L. Dryden as deputy administrator.<\/p>\n<p>NASA officially opened for business 65 years ago on Oct. 1, 1958, to oversee the United States\u2019 nonmilitary space activities.
