{"id":770325,"date":"2023-10-24T13:11:02","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T17:11:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=770325"},"modified":"2023-10-24T13:11:02","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T17:11:02","slug":"ivv-programs-orion-team-receives-space-flight-awareness-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=770325","title":{"rendered":"IV&amp;V Program\u2019s Orion Team Receives Space Flight Awareness Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FAIRMONT \u2013 The NASA Independent Verification &amp; Validation Program\u2019s Orion Team received an award for their contributions to the Artemis I Mission during a ceremony hosted at the I-79 Technology Park, in Fairmont.<\/p>\n<p>The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Space Flight Awareness (SFA) Award Ceremony is an annual event recognizing employees and teams who have made strides in their role in promoting astronaut safety and mission success. Members of the IV&amp;V Orion Team took home the team award for significant contributions \u201cto improving the quality, reliability, and safety of the Orion Program\u2019s safety and mission critical software in support of the Artemis I Mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"hds-media hds-module wp-block-image\">\n<div class=\"margin-left-auto margin-right-auto nasa-block-align-inline\">\n<div class=\"hds-media-wrapper margin-left-auto margin-right-auto\">\n<figure class=\"hds-media-inner hds-cover-wrapper hds-media-ratio-cover \"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" src=\"\" class=\"attachment-2048x2048 size-2048x2048\" alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\" style=\"object-position: 50% 50%;object-fit: cover\" \/><\/figure><figcaption class=\"hds-caption padding-y-2\">\n<div class=\"hds-caption-text p-sm margin-0\">Members of the IV&amp;V Orion Team pose for a celebratory photo with Astronaut and Scientist Stanley Love at the Space Flight Awareness Awards Ceremony, in Fairmont. <\/div>\n<div class=\"hds-credits\">Travis Wohlrab GSFC<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Artemis I was an uncrewed lunar flight test and the first in a series of increasingly complex missions that will enable human exploration at the Moon and future missions to Mars.<\/p>\n<p>The IV&amp;V winners were among those honored at a recent ceremony in Fairmont, West Virginia, with IV&amp;V Program Director Wes Deadrick and NASA Astronaut and Scientist Stanley Love among those speaking at the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a treat to be able to come out and shake hands with some of the folks who keep us safe and keep our missions going,\u201d Love said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the SFA Program, the IV&amp;V Orion Team identified and helped resolve nearly 3,000 high-severity issues and risks, working closely with its customers in the Orion Program and others.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, on Artemis missions, Orion will carry the crew to space, provide emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during the space travel, and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNASA\u2019s human spaceflight missions greatly rely on evolving systems and software, and if the safety for these systems fail then the mission fails,\u201d Deadrick said during the ceremony. \u201cIn this regard, both for human spaceflight missions and for science missions, the IV&amp;V Program has become indispensable to Goddard and the agency.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"hds-media hds-module wp-block-image\">\n<div class=\"margin-left-auto margin-right-auto nasa-block-align-inline\">\n<div class=\"hds-media-wrapper margin-left-auto margin-right-auto\">\n<figure class=\"hds-media-inner hds-cover-wrapper hds-media-ratio-cover \"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" src=\"\" class=\"attachment-2048x2048 size-2048x2048\" alt=\"Man speaking behind a podium with a NASA logo on the front of the podium.
