What conditions in the upper atmosphere trigger them? How do sprites affect Earth\u2019s global electric circuit, and what is their contribution to the energy in Earth\u2019s upper atmosphere? On October 26, 2022, <a href=\"NASA&#x2019;s New Citizen Science Project to Capture Elusive Upper Atmospheric Electrical Phenomena on Camera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NASA\u2019s Spritacular project<\/a> began asking volunteers to help answer these questions. Happy Birthday, Spritacular!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been an amazing journey,\u201d said Dr. Burcu Kosar, space physicist at NASA\u2019s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland and Spritacular principal investigator.\u00a0 \u201cOur community is growing steadily. We have been so thankful for all the participation so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The project has 308 volunteers that have contributed 189 observations from 13 different countries.
