2023-07-13 \u2013 CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen will make history as the first Canadian to fly to the Moon, as part of the Artemis II mission. In this video, he’s at Ellington Airfield in Houston, Texas, showing a T-38 supersonic jet. This aircraft has been used for astronaut training since the Apollo era. <\/p>\n Jeremy Hansen:<\/strong> I\u2019m standing here at Ellington Airfield in Houston, Texas. This is where we do our flight training for the astronaut corps. \u00a0<\/p>\n Behind me is the T-38 jet aircraft that we\u2019ve been using as long as I\u2019ve been here, actually, since the Apollo era, to train astronauts. \u00a0And the reason we use these airplanes is because they\u2019re challenging. \u00a0We can have two astronauts in the cockpit together, working as a team, just like we do in a spacecraft. \u00a0<\/p>\n And we have so many amazing simulators here at the Johnson Space Center, but none of those simulators will kill you, but this will. \u00a0And that is one of the benefits of this training is that we are managing real risk preparing us to go to space.
