{"id":775956,"date":"2023-12-20T19:39:58","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T00:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=775956"},"modified":"2023-12-20T19:39:58","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T00:39:58","slug":"nasa-to-cover-northrop-grumman-cygnus-departure-from-space-station-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=775956","title":{"rendered":"NASA to Cover Northrop Grumman Cygnus Departure from Space Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Northrop Grumman\u2019s uncrewed Cygnus spacecraft is scheduled to depart the International Space Station on Friday, Dec. 22, four months after delivering more than 8,200 pounds of supplies, scientific investigations, commercial products, hardware, and other cargo to the orbiting laboratory for NASA and its international partners.<\/p>\n<p>Live coverage of the spacecraft\u2019s departure will begin at 7:45 a.m. EST on the NASA+ streaming service via the web or NASA app. Coverage also will air live on NASA Television, the NASA app, YouTube, and the agency\u2019s website. Learn how to stream NASA TV through a variety of platforms including social media.<\/p>\n<p>Flight controllers on the ground will send commands for the space station\u2019s Canadarm2 robotic arm to detach Cygnus from the Unity module\u2019s Earth-facing port, then maneuver the spacecraft into position for its release at 8:05 a.m. NASA astronaut Loral O\u2019Hara will monitor Cygnus\u2019 systems upon its departure from the space station.<\/p>\n<p>Following a deorbit engine firing in early January, Cygnus will begin a planned destructive re-entry, in which the spacecraft \u2013 filled with trash packed by the station crew \u2013 will safely burn up in Earth\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Cygnus arrived at the space station Aug. 4 following a launch on Northrop Grumman\u2019s Antares rocket from NASA\u2019s Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. It was the company\u2019s 19th commercial resupply services mission to the space station for NASA.
