{"id":777204,"date":"2024-02-14T11:37:54","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T16:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=777204"},"modified":"2024-02-14T11:37:54","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T16:37:54","slug":"euclids-twin-arrives-at-esa-mission-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=777204","title":{"rendered":"Euclid&#8217;s &#8216;twin&#8217; arrives at ESA mission control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n\t<span class=\"pillar article__item\">Enabling &amp; Support<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>14\/02\/2024<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span><span id=\"viewcount\">127<\/span><small> views<\/small><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span><span id=\"ezsr_total_25482164\">5<\/span><small> likes<\/small><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>ESA\u2019s Euclid observatory has begun to survey billions of galaxies on a quest to uncover the secrets of dark matter and dark energy from its vantage point 1.5 million km from Earth.<\/p>\n<p>The spacecraft is operated by teams at ESA\u2019s ESOC mission control, who send commands, download data and status information and ensure the health and functioning of the satellite.<\/p>\n<p>These teams rely on a one-of-a-kind test bench known as an \u2018avionics model\u2019 to diagnose and solve issues experienced by the Euclid flight model in space and to test procedures and software on the ground before they are executed on the real spacecraft.<\/p>\n<p>An avionics model is an electrically faithful replication of the satellite\u2019s avionics \u2013 the devices, hardware and software on a spacecraft that enable it to be controlled from the ground, including propulsion, attitude control, communication, computers and navigation,\u00a0and its scientific instruments.<\/p>\n<p>The Euclid Avionics Model began its life at the spacecraft\u2019s manufacturer, Thales Alenia Space in Torino, Italy, and was recently delivered to ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Euclid flight control team now has direct access to a fully functional replica of the inner workings of the satellite,\u201d says spacecraft operations manager Micha Schmidt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe avionics model has already proven very important to the mission.
