{"id":778086,"date":"2024-02-29T12:14:51","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T17:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=778086"},"modified":"2024-02-29T12:14:51","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T17:14:51","slug":"how-will-space-transform-the-global-food-system-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=778086","title":{"rendered":"How will space transform the global food system?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"modal__tab-content--details\">\n<div class=\"modal__tab-description\">\n<p>According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), global agricultural production will need to increase by 60% by 2050 to meet the food demands of the growing global population.<\/p>\n<p>A new satellite called Copernicus Hyperspectral Imaging Mission for the Environment, or CHIME, is being developed to support EU policies on the management of natural resources \u2013 ultimately helping to address the global issue of food security.<\/p>\n<p>CHIME will carry a unique visible to shortwave infrared spectrometer to provide routine hyperspectral observations to support new and enhanced services for sustainable agricultural and biodiversity management, as well as soil property characterisation.<\/p>\n<p>CHIME is one of six Copernicus Sentinel Expansion missions that ESA is developing on behalf of the EU.
