This test, conducted by the <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> Navy and NASA<\/span> from <time datetime=\"2024-02-21\">February\u00a021<\/time> to <time datetime=\"2024-02-28\">28<\/time>, was to rehearse the safe recovery of the crew and the Orion capsule after their splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. It involved <abbr title=\"Canadian Space Agency\">CSA<\/abbr> astronaut Jeremy Hansen and his Artemis\u00a0II<\/span> crewmates, along with <abbr title=\"Canadian Space Agency\">CSA<\/abbr> astronaut Jenni Gibbons. As the Canadian backup astronaut for the mission, she was also involved in validating the astronaut training and some procedures for this test.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nNASA<\/span> and the <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> Department of Defense are conducting a series of tests at NASA<\/span>‘s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory and in the ocean to demonstrate and evaluate the processes, procedures, and hardware used in recovery operations for crewed lunar missions. In <time datetime=\"2023-07\">July\u00a02023<\/time>, they performed the first test specific to the Artemis\u00a0II<\/span> mission, but without the crew present. This time, the crew was on hand. This test, conducted by the <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> Navy and NASA<\/span> from <time datetime=\"2024-02-21\">February\u00a021<\/time> to <time datetime=\"2024-02-28\">28<\/time>, was to rehearse the safe recovery of the crew and the Orion capsule after their splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. It involved <abbr title=\"Canadian Space Agency\">CSA<\/abbr> astronaut Jeremy Hansen and his Artemis\u00a0II<\/span> crewmates, along with <abbr title=\"Canadian Space Agency\">CSA<\/abbr> astronaut Jenni Gibbons. As the Canadian backup astronaut for the mission, she was also involved in validating the astronaut training and some procedures for this test.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nNASA<\/span> and the <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> Department of Defense are conducting a series of tests at NASA<\/span>‘s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory and in the ocean to demonstrate and evaluate the processes, procedures, and hardware used in recovery operations for crewed lunar missions. In <time datetime=\"2023-07\">July\u00a02023<\/time>, they performed the first test specific to the Artemis\u00a0II<\/span> mission, but without the crew present. This time, the crew was on hand.
