This is the first time a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from the contiguous United States since 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The instant of\u00a0the greatest eclipse will take place at 18:17 UTC \u2013 one day after the Moon reaches perigee. During the eclipse, the Sun will be in the constellation of Pisces. The synodic month in which it takes place has a Brown Lunation Number of 1253.<\/p>\n<p>As explained by NASA\u2019s Fred Espenak, this eclipse belongs to\u00a0Saros 139 and is number 30 of 71 eclipses in the series. All eclipses in this series occur at the Moon\u2019s ascending node. While high clouds spanning across parts of the totality path are likely, they may not completely obscure the eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>The best chances for clear viewing are most likely across northern New England but are also possible from northern Arkansas to central Indiana.
