{"id":783031,"date":"2024-05-28T15:24:51","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T20:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=783031"},"modified":"2024-05-28T15:24:51","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T20:24:51","slug":"airbus-is-the-prime-contractor-for-esas-vigil-spacecraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=783031","title":{"rendered":"Airbus is the prime contractor for ESA&#8217;s Vigil spacecraft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"modal__tab-content--details\">\n<div class=\"modal__tab-description\">\n<p>On 22 May 2024, a declaration celebrating the concluding of the Vigil mission contract was signed during the Space Council in Brussels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The declaration was signed by ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher and Patrick Wood, Head of Space Systems UK, Airbus Defence &amp; Space in the presence of Andrew Griffith MP, UK Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation.<\/p>\n<p>ESA signed a contract with Airbus Defence &amp; Space UK worth \u20ac340 million for the development of its Vigil satellite as its prime contractor.\u00a0From its unique vantage point in deep space, Vigil will greatly improve our early warning of severe space weather events such as solar storms that may cause disruption on Earth.\u00a0Vigil will continuously deliver near real-time data on potentially hazardous solar activity before it is detectable from Earth.
