{"id":785198,"date":"2024-07-03T11:34:50","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T16:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=785198"},"modified":"2024-07-03T11:34:50","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T16:34:50","slug":"stellar-success-for-esas-first-open-day-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=785198","title":{"rendered":"Stellar success for ESA&#8217;s first open day in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n\t<span class=\"pillar article__item\">Agency<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>03\/07\/2024<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<span><span id=\"viewcount\">170<\/span><small> views<\/small><\/span><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span><span id=\"ezsr_total_26203195\">1<\/span><small> likes<\/small><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Thousands of visitors flocked to ESA\u2019s establishment in the UK last Saturday to experience first-hand how the agency is pushing the boundaries of exploration and using space to improve life on Earth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This was ESA\u2019s very first open day to be held at its European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT), located at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"article__image article__image--left\"><figcaption class=\"image__caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tESA Open Days at ECSAT<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Part of the campus-wide Harwell open week, the event\u2019s packed programme of talks and hands-on demonstrations launched visitors on an inspiring journey through ECSAT\u2019s activities, showing how expert teams at the site are collaborating with partners on campus, the UK and across ESA\u2019s member states for the benefit of European citizens.<\/p>\n<p>After months of preparations, the ESA open day at ECSAT and the final day of Harwell campus open week coincided with soaring temperatures and clear blue skies, with some 20 000 people making their way to Harwell to explore behind the scenes at the UK\u2019s leading science and innovation campus.<\/p>\n<p>The ESA open day, hosted by ESA\u2019s Magali Vaissiere Conference Centre, kicked off with a welcome to ECSAT from its head of establishment Laurent Jaffart, followed by a Q&amp;A with British ESA astronaut Rosemary Coogan and British ESA astronaut reserve Meganne Christian that was attended by a packed audience of space enthusiasts of all ages.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"article__image article__image--right\"><figcaption class=\"image__caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHarwell open week<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Many other fascinating talks on space, science and engineering topics took place throughout the day, as well as a unique climate-inspired fashion show created thanks to ESA\u2019s collaboration with climate-conscious fashion label Tammam.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors also took part in hands-on demonstrations to explore the different activities taking place at ECSAT.<\/p>\n<p>People were invited to enter mixed reality worlds to learn about space-enabled connectivity and were given the chance to explore our changing environment through the eyes of Earth observing satellites.
