Welcome to a new era for\u00a0The Earth Observer<\/em>\u00a0newsletter! Our 35th<\/sup> anniversary also marks the official public release of\u00a0our new website. Over the past year and a half,\u00a0The Earth Observer\u00a0<\/em>has migrated from a print publication (the last printed issue was\u00a0November\u2013December 2022<\/strong>) to publishing PDFs online only (final PDF issue<\/strong>\u00a0published in May 2024) to publishing individual articles on our new site. While this move shifts\u00a0The Earth Observer<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0format\u00a0<\/em>to be more in line with that of other online publications, our intent is for the\u00a0content\u00a0<\/em>to remain distinctive. Readers can expect to continue receiving the same quality reporting on NASA Earth Science activities that they have come to depend on from\u00a0The Earth Observer\u00a0<\/em>for over 35 years.<\/p>\nThe release of the website coincides with a historical milestone for\u00a0The Earth Observer<\/em>. It was 35 years ago \u2013 in March 1989 \u2013 that the\u00a0first print issue<\/strong>\u00a0of the newsletter was produced. At that time,\u00a0The Earth Observer<\/em>\u00a0was a crucial communication tool for the initial group of investigators for the Earth Observing System (EOS), which had been selected that same year. They depended on the periodic delivery of the newsletter to their physical mailboxes to keep them informed about decisions made at recent science team and payload panel meetings, and other activities related to the program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\nAs communication technologies have evolved, so has\u00a0The Earth Observer.\u00a0<\/em>The interweaving tale of the evolution of EOS and\u00a0The Earth Observer<\/em>\u00a0has been told in previous issues of our publication.
