Credit: ESA<br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Europe&#8217;s Vega rocket launched Wednesday from French Guiana, an AFP journalist said, carrying a satellite which will help combat natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>Delayed by a day due to &#8220;electrical issues on the ground links&#8221;, according to French firm Arianespace, the launch in Kourou finally took place at 10:50 pm (0150 GMT Thursday).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Successful lift-off for the last Vega mission from Europe&#8217;s spaceport,&#8221; the Guiana Space Center wrote on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p>The rocket is transporting the Sentinel-2C satellite, part of the European Union&#8217;s Copernicus program.<\/p>\n<p>Sentinel-2C will play a role in water quality monitoring and detecting methane emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The satellite will also support the management of natural disasters such as forest fires, earthquakes and floods.<\/p>\n<p>The mission will be the last for the Vega rocket, built by Italian aerospace company Avio and in service since 2012.<\/p>\n<p>It is due to be replaced by the more powerful Vega-C, which has been grounded since 2022 following an accident which caused the loss of two Airbus satellites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-main__note mt-4\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t  \u00a9 2024 AFP\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- print only --><\/p>\n<div class=\"d-none d-print-block\">\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Citation<\/strong>:<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEurope&#8217;s Vega rocket launches in French Guiana (2024, September 5)<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tretrieved 5 September 2024<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfrom\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t This document is subject to copyright.
