{"id":788443,"date":"2024-09-05T13:58:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T18:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=788443"},"modified":"2024-09-05T13:58:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T18:58:51","slug":"darpa-robotic-satellite-servicing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=788443","title":{"rendered":"DARPA Robotic Satellite Servicing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) have signed an interagency agreement to collaborate on a satellite servicing demonstration in geosynchronous Earth orbit, where hundreds of satellites provide communications, meteorological, national security, and other vital functions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under this agreement, NASA will provide subject matter expertise to DARPA\u2019s Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites (RSGS) program to help complete the technology development, integration, testing, and demonstration. The RSGS servicing spacecraft will advance in-orbit satellite inspection, repair, and upgrade capabilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"nasa-gb-align-center padding-y-3 maxw-full width-full display-flex flex-align-center hds-module wp-block-nasa-blocks-blockquote\">\n<div class=\"grid-container grid-container-block display-flex flex-column flex-justify-center padding-0\">\n<div class=\"grid-col-12 desktop:display-flex mobile:display-block\">\n<div class=\"blockquote-content\">\n<div class=\"display-flex\">\n<div class=\"blockquote-image hds-cover-wrapper margin-right-3\">\n<figure class=\"hds-media-background  \"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"grid-col-11\">\n<p class=\"blockquote-credit-name line-height-sm margin-0\">Pam Melroy<\/p>\n<p class=\"blockquote-credit-title line-height-sm padding-0 margin-0\">NASA Deputy Administrator <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>NASA will use expertise from the agency\u2019s On-orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing 1 project and other relevant efforts to provide hands-on support to RSGS in the areas of space robotics, systems engineering, spacecraft subsystems, integration and testing, operator training, and spaceflight operations.
