The 50-metre\u202fhigh structure weighs over 1000 tonnes, and a hydraulic system drives wheels on an 80-m rail track.\u202fThe gantry is powered by two electric motors of some 70\u202fkW capacity, these operate the hydraulic pumps supplying pressurised oil to six wheels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The third\u202fCopernicus Sentinel-1\u202fsatellite, Sentinel-1C, launched aboard\u202fa\u202fVega-C\u202frocket,\u202fflight VV25,\u202ffrom Europe\u2019s\u202fSpaceport in French Guiana.\u202fThe rocket lifted off\u202fon 5\u202fDecember 2024\u202fat\u202f22:20\u202fCET (18:20\u202flocal time).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sentinel-1C extends the legacy of its predecessors, delivering high-resolution radar imagery to monitor Earth\u2019s changing environment, supporting a diverse range of applications and advance scientific research. Additionally, Sentinel-1C introduces new capabilities for detecting and monitoring maritime traffic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The launch also marks Vega-C\u2019s \u2018return to flight\u2019, a key step in restoring Europe\u2019s independent access to space.
