{"id":792398,"date":"2025-01-03T14:09:03","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T19:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=792398"},"modified":"2025-01-03T14:09:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T19:09:03","slug":"beijing-slams-us-over-potential-chinese-drone-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=792398","title":{"rendered":"Beijing slams US over potential Chinese drone ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>China said on Friday it would take \u201call necessary measures\u201d in response to the United States announcing it was considering restrictions on commercial Chinese drones for national security reasons.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the United States Commerce Department said it was considering new rules to address risks posed by drones made with technology from foreign adversaries such as China and Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The efforts could lead to regulations or bans on Chinese drones, which dominate the global market.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question about the potential restrictions on Friday, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning accused the US of \u201cgeneralizing the concept of national security, interfering and restricting normal economic and trade exchanges, and undermining the security and stability of global production and supply chains\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The US Commerce Department is seeking public feedback on the potential new rules until March 4, meaning the decision will fall to the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The department suggested the technology designed by China may give it \u201cthe ability to remotely access and manipulate\u201d the drones, which could \u201cpresent undue or unacceptable risks to US national security\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In October last year, Chinese drone maker DJI, the world\u2019s largest drone manufacturer, said it was suing the US Department of Defense after Washington designated it a \u201cChinese Military Company\u201d in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDJI is not owned or controlled by the Chinese military\u2026 is a private company and should not be misclassified as a military company,\u201d the firm said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>DJI has attracted Washington\u2019s scrutiny in recent years, including for its alleged role in surveilling ethnic minorities in China.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Washington moved to ban the sale of connected vehicles incorporating Chinese and Russian technology, citing national security risks.<\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defencetalk.com\/beijing-slams-us-over-potential-chinese-drone-ban-80518\/?rand=771656\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China said on Friday it would take \u201call necessary measures\u201d in response to the United States announcing it was considering restrictions on commercial Chinese drones for national security reasons.
