On March 3, 1915, the NACA was founded \u201cto supervise and direct the scientific study of the problems of flight, with a view to their practical solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the NACA began as a committee of only 12 leaders representing government, military, and industry, it rapidly expanded through World War II to develop America\u2019s flight capabilities for defense and commercial uses.
