He was partnered with CNES (Centre National d\u2019Etudes Spatiales) \u00a0astronaut Philippe Perrin for the spacewalk \u2013 one of three that occurred during the STS-111 mission. Chang-Diaz was part of NASA\u2019s ninth class of astronaut candidates.
