{"id":797604,"date":"2025-08-04T14:59:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T19:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=797604"},"modified":"2025-08-04T14:59:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T19:59:06","slug":"asteroid-2025-pu-flew-past-earth-at-just-0-14-ld-on-august-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=797604","title":{"rendered":"Asteroid 2025 PU flew past Earth at just 0.14 LD on August 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>This is the 83<sup>rd<\/sup> known asteroid to fly past Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the first so far this month.<\/p>\n<p>Asteroid 2025 PU was first observed at NASA\/JPL SynTrack Robotic Telescope in Auberry on August 3 \u2014 about 10 hours before it was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>The object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 2.1 and 4.8 m (6.9\u201315.7 feet).<\/p>\n<p>It flew past us at a relative speed of 10.5 km\/s (37 800 km\/h or 23 500 mph).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Asteroid 2025 PU close approach on August 2, 2025.
