Three confirmed planets had previously been found orbiting the red dwarf Proxima Centauri, but\u00a0JWST\u2019s detection of a gas giant is the first for the brighter Alpha Centauri A.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/planetary.s3.amazonaws.com\/sites\/planetary\/images\/image_library_moon.png\" alt=\"Moon\" class=\"inline align-middle h-5 w-5 float-left mr-1 mt-1\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>China\u2019s crewed lunar lander passed a key test.\u00a0<\/strong>The &#8220;Lanyue&#8221; two-person lunar lander\u00a0succeeded at a comprehensive landing and takeoff test on Aug. 6. China&#8217;s first human lunar exploration mission is expected to be carried out before 2030.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/planetary.s3.amazonaws.com\/sites\/planetary\/images\/image_library_sun.png\" alt=\"Sun\" class=\"inline align-middle h-5 w-5 float-left mr-1 mt-1\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sun may be less active than other stars because of its planets.\u00a0<\/strong>Our Sun is about five times less magnetically active than other Sun-like stars, perhaps due to the influence of the planets.\u00a0New research suggests that the combined tidal forces of the planets could \u201cnudge\u201d the Sun&#8217;s inner magnetic drive, curbing solar activity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/planetary.s3.amazonaws.com\/sites\/planetary\/images\/image_library_earth.png\" alt=\"Earth\" class=\"inline h-5 w-5 float-left mr-1 mt-1\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell has died.\u00a0<\/strong>Lovell flew on several important crewed missions, including Gemini 7 and Gemini 12. He served as Command Module Pilot for Apollo 8, the first mission to lift off on a Saturn V rocket and orbit the Moon.
