{"id":798000,"date":"2025-09-02T13:26:54","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T18:26:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=798000"},"modified":"2025-09-02T13:26:54","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T18:26:54","slug":"first-glimpse-of-metop-sg-a1-microwave-sounder-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=798000","title":{"rendered":"First glimpse of MetOp-SG-A1 Microwave Sounder data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"modal__tab-content--details\">\n<div class=\"modal__tab-description\">\n<p>Less than three weeks since the first MetOp Second Generation weather satellite, MetOp-SG-A1, was launched, this remarkable new satellite has already started transmitting data from two of its cutting-edge instruments, offering a tantalising glimpse of what\u2019s to come.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this new satellite only being in orbit for three weeks and the commissioning is at a very early stage, its Microwave Sounder (MWS) and Radio Occultation (RO) sounder are already returning early \u2018first glimpse\u2019 data, marking a significant milestone in a new era of European weather and climate monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>This striking image is a striking 24-hour capture from 24 August from the MWS Channel 17. Besides Earth\u2019s surface properties, this channel is also sensitive to convective clouds, shown as various filaments and banding structures over the oceans.
