{"id":799261,"date":"2025-11-20T05:48:31","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T10:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=799261"},"modified":"2025-11-20T05:48:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T10:48:31","slug":"bright-fireball-spotted-by-esas-meteor-detection-station-in-caceres-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spaceweekly.com\/?p=799261","title":{"rendered":"Bright fireball spotted by ESA&#8217;s meteor detection station in C\u00e1ceres, Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"modal__tab-content--details\">\n<div class=\"modal__tab-description\">\n<p>On 2 November 2025 at\u00a020:41\u00a0CET, ESA\u2019s\u00a0AMS82, a\u00a0meteor detection station\u00a0located\u00a0in\u00a0Casas de Mill\u00e1n,\u00a0C\u00e1ceres, Spain, recorded a bright bolide streaking\u00a0northwest over\u00a0Portugal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Operated by ESA\u2019s Planetary Defence Office and part of the AllSky7 network, the\u00a0station\u00a0captured the\u00a0blazing\u00a0object\u00a0from its\u00a0appearance at\u00a097 km above\u00a0Lous\u00e3, Castelo Branco,\u00a0before disintegrating at an altitude of\u00a043\u00a0km above\u00a0Amiosinho, Coimbra,\u00a0both in\u00a0Portugal. It was travelling at approximately\u00a081 000\u00a0km\/h.\u00a0The object was not detected prior to impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Calculations from\u00a0the\u00a0Southwestern Europe Meteor Network\u00a0(SWEMN\u00a0\u2013 IAA-CSIC)\u00a0suggest the\u00a0object\u00a0originated from a comet. Upon entering Earth\u2019s atmosphere at high speed, its surface heated to several thousand degrees Celsius, becoming incandescent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The event was marked by a striking explosion, caused by the sudden rupture of the rock, which produced a sharp increase in brightness. Before extinguishing, the fireball travelled roughly 80 km through the atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0bolide was preceded\u00a0almost\u00a0an\u00a0hour\u00a0before, at\u00a019:42\u00a0CET,\u00a0by\u00a0a\u00a0meteor\u00a0that\u00a0lit up the skies\u00a0for\u00a0around 8 to\u00a010 seconds.
