The flight, VA266, was the first launch of Galileo satellites on Europe\u2019s newest heavy-lift launcher Ariane 6.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The satellites, designated SAT 33 and SAT 34, separated from the launcher after a flight of just under four hours.\u202fThe launch was declared successful after acquisition of signal and the confirmation that both satellites are healthy with their solar arrays deployed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith these new satellites, we strengthen Europe\u2019s global navigation services &#8211; delivering greater precision, reliability and autonomy in space\u201d,\u00a0affirmed Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGalileo stands as the world\u2019s most\u202faccurate\u202fglobal navigation satellite system \u2013 and today we have increased\u202fits\u202freliability and robustness,\u201d said Josef Aschbacher, ESA\u2019s Director General.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The European Space Agency\u00a0was responsible for\u00a0carrying out the Galileo launch with Arianespace on behalf of the European Commission. The Galileo satellites were manufactured by OHB, under contract with ESA.
