\t\t\t\t\t\t27\/01\/2026<\/span> The\u00a0European Space Agency\u00a0discussed plans for\u00a0its\u00a0record budget\u00a0as the\u00a018th\u00a0European Space Conference began in Brussels, Belgium on 27 January.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Opening keynotes were delivered\u00a0by\u00a0European Commissioner for\u00a0Defence\u00a0and Space Andrius Kubilius,\u00a0Nicodemos\u00a0Damianou, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Republic of Cyprus\u00a0and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n The Commissioner and the Director General then spoke to assembled reporters.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n The first images\u00a0from the\u00a0Meteosat\u00a0Third Generation-Sounder satellite were\u00a0also\u00a0shared,\u00a0showing how the mission will provide data on temperature and humidity, for more\u00a0accurate\u00a0weather forecasting over Europe and northern Africa.\u00a0Simonetta Cheli, ESA\u2019s Director of Earth Observation\u00a0Programmes, and Phil Evans, Director-General of\u00a0Eumetsat, also signed a formal agreement marking the next phase of collaboration\u00a0on the\u00a0Eumetsat\u00a0Polar System \u2013 Sterna (EPS-Sterna), which will deliver frequent observations to support very short-term weather forecasts and nowcasts in the Arctic, and around the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n The conference continues on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
