This picture shows the construction site of ESO\u2019s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) on Cerro Armazones. Once completed, the ELT will become the world\u2019s biggest eye on the sky, featuring a 39-meter-diameter mirror\u2026that\u2019s about 9 cars parked bumper-to-bumper, or two H225 helicopters nose-to-tail!<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration between Europe and Chile at its best!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Jour 051, orbite 0802 \u2013 Le Chili offre certains des plus beaux ciels de la plan\u00e8te\u2026 Observer les \u00e9toiles y prend une toute autre dimension : trois galaxies sont parfaitement visibles \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153il nu dans le ciel nocturne \u2013 notre propre Voie lact\u00e9e et ses deux voisines, les Grand et Petit Nuages de Magellan.<\/p>\n<p>Le d\u00e9sert d\u2019Atacama, aux allures de Mars, accueille plusieurs observatoires de l\u2019ESO, notamment \u00e0 La Silla et au Cerro Paranal. Sur cette photo, on distingue le chantier de construction de l\u2019Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) de l\u2019ESO, situ\u00e9 sur le Cerro Armazones.
