Satellite navigation steers unmanned micro-planes

An unmanned aircraft system guided by satnav has been developed within ESA’s Business Incubation Centre to provide rapid monitoring of land areas and disaster zones. The planes have already helped Spanish farmers in Andalusia to fight land erosion.

688th IOW celebrates one year anniversary

The 688th Information Operations Wing celebrated its one year anniversary Aug. 18 during the wing's commanders conference.

In looking back over the last year, the 688th IOW has operated on afterburners improving and integrating cyber effects across all domains, said Col. Robert Skinner, 688th IOW commander. The 688th had the complex task of bringing together the different cultures of three major commands into a new wing, and work to lay the foundation upon which the Air Force will build future full spectrum operational cyber excellence.

Discovery Prepping for Transport Loading

Space shuttle Discovery is being readied today for its loading atop a flat, specialized transporter that will carry it to the Vehicle Assembly Building on Sept 8. Discovery has been inside Orbiter Processing Facility-3 since its return from the STS-131 mission on April 20. It is targeted for launch Nov. 1 on the STS-133 mission to the International Space Station.

At NASA's Johnson Space Center, the STS-133 astronauts will practice procedures for the mission's first spacewalk in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory.
