Tracking every move

Using images that Sentinel-1A acquired between November 2014 and April 2016, this map shows subsidence (red) and uplift (blue) in the northeast of the Netherlands. The map, which covers 160 × 80 km, uses 2.5 million measurements points that are accurate to better than a few millimetres over the entire mapped area. Most of these measurements were made around buildings and constructions such as dikes. While these results will be refined further and carefully analysed, they already demonstrate the value of the Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission for mapping land deformation on a nationwide basis.
