EDITOR'S NOTE – Reporter Jim Strothman was alone in The Associated Press office at Cocoa Beach, Florida, that Friday evening, Jan. 27, 1967, covering what should have been a routine countdown test for the Apollo 1 astronauts and listening to NASA updates via a squawk box.
