Abstract: The author Nassim Taleb has coined the term ‘‘Black Swan’’ event to describe a very low probability event that come as a surprise and has a major effect in the field in which it occurs. He suggests that such events have occurred in history, finance, science, and technology more frequently than one can expect from stochastic theory.
