It is not often an Air Force Space Command Airman is awarded the Bronze Star for contributions in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
However not all AFSPC Airmen are like Maj. Doug Welter, AFSPC Directorate of Logistics, Installations and Mission Support, who was presented the Bronze Star Dec. 29 for his service in Iraq.
Major Welter, a native of Chaffee, Mo., was deployed to Joint Base Balad, Iraq as the operations officer for the 532nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron from Aug. 27, 2009 to Feb. 19, 2010.
