Message from Outer Space to ECSL & IISL Members by ESA Astronaut Matthias Maurer

ESA Astronaut Matthias Maurer is currently undertaking his first mission to the International Space Station (ISS), known as Cosmic Kiss, and is on a 6-month-stay. In this video message, he addresses the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL) and International Institute of Space Law (IISL) members and clearly notes the importance of space law directly from the ISS.

The European Centre for Space Law (ECSL) was founded in 1989 under the auspices of the European Space Agency. The purposes and objectives are to develop and foster capacity building in space law and policy. Both institutions jointly cooperate on multiple projects, the largest being the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.

The International Institute of Space Law (IISL) was founded in 1960. The purposes and objectives of the Institute include the cooperation with appropriate international organisations and national institutions in the field of space law and the carrying out of tasks for fostering the development of space law.
