On 18 March 1993, the 7th Space Operations Squadron, located at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo., was activated as the first Air Force Reserve space unit assigned to support Air Force Space Command. The 7th SOS paved the way for the integration of reserve units across AFSPC.

Today, the squadron mission is focused on operating the Multi-Mission Satellite Operations Center and providing expert assistance to the Space-Based Space Surveillance program. The operations center is focused on forging one-of-a-kind operations to demonstrate and field emerging space missions and satellite command and control technologies in a rapid, decisive manner, and it is the focal point for cutting edge technologies.
