Best way to diagnose head injuries in children and minimize CT scans

In a trial involving more than 20,000 children, researchers compared the sensitivities of three clinical decision rules for head injuries. The researchers found that only one, the PECARN from the US, did not miss a single child requiring neurosurgery. The study will help inform the use of the clinical rules by clinicians and hospitals and could help minimize the use of CT scans to detect brain injuries.
